My Choices Sustainability Store

My Choices is an organization based in India created to give women choices – a choice to live a life free from abuse.

Our mission is to stop domestic violence by training and employing women – PeaceMakers – who work within their community to create meaningful change in victims’ lives. We believe that domestic violence can be stopped.

A PeaceMaker is a local woman who has been trained and equipped by My Choices to work in her community counseling, educating and assisting victims of domestic violence and provide legal guidance if necessary.

The Golconda Sustainability Program started in 2013 in an effort to provide financial stability to the work of My Choices. In the beginning, twenty marginalized women joined the 3-month training in design, color theory and sewing. We now employ more than 26 women, called PeaceCrafters, and continue to grow. For most of these women, this is the first skills training and first paycheck they have every received.

The products you see here are handmade by our PeaceCrafters. 100% of the proceeds go to sustain these women and the services My Choices provides to victims of violence. All our products are made from 100% silk, up-cycled saris.

You can go to www.mychoices.asia to learn more about what we do, meet some of our women and learn how you can help stop domestic violence in India.

Seeking Volunteer Counselor

Counselors :

A My Choices Counselor works with victims of abuse and often their husbands and/or families to overcome the abuse and work to find a peaceful solution. Counselors deal mostly with cases of (emotional, economic, physical and/or sexual) domestic abuse, but may also counsel victims of different forms of sexual violence including rape or other kinds of abuse. Counselors offer guidance for the emotional recovery of victims of abuse, as well as guidance for conflict resolution and legal action if required and wanted.

Counselors work with local women called PeaceMakers who are trained and equipped to offer counseling and education on legal recourse to victims of abuse. PeaceMakers are the first point of contact in most instances and will refer cases to counselors that require a deeper level of assistance.
